Four content marketing stats to sink your teeth into

Advertising has had a pretty bad rap as of late. Consumers have grown tired of the cheap tricks of yesteryear and instead, are ushering in a new era of B2C communication; one defined by transparency, authenticity and kindness.

The trouble for marketers lies in conveying these attributes to consumers. Indeed, traditional marketing channels trip up here; after all, how can a brand show off its human side in a 20-second TV advert? Moreover, in a time where social media reigns supreme, consumers can quite simply click off an ad they don't care for. It's time for a new approach, it seems.

Here's where content marketing comes in. Content has the power to inform and entertain audiences while establishing interpersonal relationships. It's also a significant builder of both trust and thought leadership, so what's not to love?

If you're still unconvinced, here are four content marketing stats, collected by the Content Marketing Institute, which should win you over.

More leads for less money

Content marketing fuels three times as many leads as its outbound counterpart. In fact, the research also found that content cost 62% less.

Cut through the noise

Back in 1984, people saw an average of 2,000 ads a day. This sounds like a lot, until you realise that today's consumer is exposed to more than 5,000. Additionally, when consumers aren't willingly ignoring the ads they come across, they're blocking them online – according to PageFair2017's Global Adblock Report, 615 million devices now use the software.

Big or small, content benefits businesses

SMEs may not think content marketing is necessary for their business, but research has found that those with blogs get 126% more lead growth than those who don't. Plus, 77% of internet users read blogs, so if you don't have one, you're already late to the party.

Kings of conversion

After reading a blog recommendation, 61% of US online consumers made a purchase. Meanwhile, content has been found to have six times more power than conventional marketing for changing leads into customers.
